redBus launches bus ticketing on mobile phones

Bangalore: redBus, the leading Bus Ticketing Company owned by Pilani Soft Labs, today announced the launch of bus ticketing on the mobile. Bus travelers will now have access to bus schedules, fares, seat layouts and the ability to book tickets on their phone. Payments can be made easily using debit cards, credit cards, net banking accounts as well as the cash on delivery facility.

redBus had launched the beta version of the mobile ticketing solution in late 2011. Since then there has been considerable usage of the mobile site and thousands of tickets have already been booked. Majority of the payments have been through cards followed by cash-on-delivery and net banking.

Phanindra Sama, CEO, redBus said “We have been a channel organization in that we want to cater to customers regardless of the channel used by him/her. Mobile shows signs of becoming a dominant channel and we want to enable bus travelers to be able to plan and book their tickets easily on the device. We have created a very easy-to-use and intuitive mobile site with all available payment options. I’m sure we’ll see increased adoption month-on-month.”

Mayank Bidawatka, Head-Internet and Mobile said “We have been optimistic about mobile as a channel. There are many used cases of internet on the mobile that well supplement that of internet on the PC. Many offices don’t allow internet access during certain hours. This channel will help those customers access a mobile optimized site during these times. Customers may want to view bus schedules / plan their travel on the go or while they are in transit. There are numbers from various sources that suggest a huge population of mobile only internet users too. These customers will derive great value from this product. With the usage of smart phones increasing, we see mobile as a channel having a great future.”
