Chennai: Panasonic India, today unveiled a Solar Renewable Energy module to compliment Everonn India Foundation’s CSR Efforts at SIPCOT Center, Irungattukotai. Everonn India foundation is a trust, towards spreading quality education across India. The decision to give the module to Everonn was made on the basis of their admirable CSR and business efforts to disseminate quality education and employable skills to millions of aspirants in India, thus aiming towards building an equitable society. With a firm belief that technology-enabled learning can truly negate socio- economic boundaries, Everonn’s diverse and dynamic operations are testament to their firm focus and dedication.
The basic objective of this collaboration is to demonstrate the convergence of renewable energy, skill development and eco conscious product solutions that reflect a development model that is both sustainable and scalable. It is also our intention to pioneer new standards in successful government – private sector collaborations as we journey forward on this path. This holistic concept is christened as the ‘Life Innovation Center’.
The Solar Renewable Energy Module is at its heart an Energy Creating, Energy Storage and Energy Management Module, packaged within a twenty foot container, easily transportable by sea, rail and land, the Module is expected to provide electricity to power off-grid areas and support disaster-ridden areas as temporary infrastructure. Equipped with eighteen solar panels (including six panels on the roof), the center generates about 6.7 kWh of power a day, while 48 EV storage batteries and an inverter inside the center enables it to supply electricity for three to four days even in cloudy weather conditions. This power system center is an emission free eco-friendly comprehensive solution which can be utilized in areas with no power for audio-visual education to improve access to information in rural areas or small businesses.
The Energy Module is a perfect example of optimum utilization of earth’s most renewable source of energy- solar energy. There are many areas in India which are deficient in terms of power supply, and with the introduction of the module, Panasonics’ intent is to help in the development of such areas by providing a system for electricity generation which is also eco-friendly.
The Demonstration of the Life Innovation Center is being conducted at SIPCOT Center at Irungattukotai, Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu. SIPCOT is a state sponsored facility, located in a semi-rural area, and caters primarily to providing vocational and skill development training for the apparel Industry that has evolved there. At this time, it primarily caters to enhancing the skill sets of women from the less privileged sections of society and thereby assists in helping them find gainful employment.
The center housed in about a half acre plot is an impressive fenced in facility with buildings and infrastructure for classrooms, vocational training rooms and canteen. The donation of the energy Module along with Annual Maintenance and spares is being formalized by a tripartite agreement between Panasonic – SIPCOT – Everonn (In Progress) for a term of 3 years.
SIPCOT will enable use of their facilities for the placement and operation of the Energy Module. Panasonic will further extend education aids such as Plasma and Projector free of cost for the Facility, while Everonn Education Foundation will extend vocational skill development and VSAT education programs as applicable. The continuation or extension of skill development programs will be treated as a separate arrangement between SIPCOT and Everonn Education foundation.
Mr. Daizo Ito- President, Panasonic India said, “Panasonic will continue to strengthen efforts towards achieving sustainable development in the country as well as towards the accomplishments of Everonn in both business and corporate citizenship activities. The Life Innovation Center will prove to be a revolutionary creation for any nation’s development as it promises optimal use of renewable energy, asset utilization and the power of education. This noble cause not only adds majorly towards the development, but also brings Panasonic one step closer to her aim of becoming the No.1 Green Innovation Company by 2018. In addition to this, Panasonic is hopeful that the energy module will make a difference in building country’s future as it will serve as a backup energy generator for disaster relief and as a support center for off-grid areas.
He further added, “The primary intention is to showcase a facility that can be replicated across the state and across the nation to meet the twin objectives of renewable energy applications and educational development in rural/semi-rural areas that are prime drivers for every state in India. Where applicable and necessary, suitable re-engineering will be done to meet the economics of establishing and maintaining such a facility.”
Ms Susha John, CEO, Whole Time Director and co-founder of Everonn Education Limited, "We, at Everonn, strongly believe that technology and innovation are the way forward to empower the youth of today with employability skills and we welcome this inspiring innovation from Panasonic in the form of Life Innovation Center (LIC). LIC will be the answer to the huge power challenges the country faces today. We are confident that installing LIC at SIPCOT, where we run vocational training programmes, will enable us to introduce additional courses and provide holistic training to the participants."
The collaboration will also highlight a successful and credible public – private sector partnership in aid of state and national development goals. Given Tamil Nadu’s Progressive state initiatives in education and the recent thrust on solar renewable energy solutions, we believe the timing is opportune to launch this initiative. It is envisioned, that a successful deployment and maintenance of this facility will set new standards for meeting state and National objectives in wealth distribution and contributions to GDP from sectors outside of urban areas, while at the same time creating future business streams for Panasonic and Everonn as a necessary element for sustainable and scalable development.
